AW2024 Knitwear Trends: What to Expect

Jul 17, 2024

As the cooler months approach, updating your wardrobe with the latest knitwear trends for Autumn/Winter 2024 is essential. This season brings fresh takes on classic pieces, emphasising sustainability, comfort, and style. Here are the key trends to watch out for:

Sustainable Knitwear

Sustainability remains a significant focus in fashion. Brands are increasingly committed to using eco-friendly materials and practices, making knitwear from recycled fibres and organic wool. Sustainable fashion is not just a trend but a movement, with consumers prioritising ethical and environmentally friendly choices.

Le Tricoteur is sustainable in a more human way than solely using wool in our products and paying a fair wage. Many of our female employees have been with us through every step of their life, growing in skills and adapting their work life to accommodate family as well : From working as a Teenager on a Saturday, to taking a job as a Quality Controller as a young adult, mending in and knitting at home during their maternity, then training as a linker and working school hours and even doing 2 shifts with a break in the afternoon to spend time with the family and returning in the evening  - our workforce have been exceptionally dedicated and many have been with us for over 50 years and their children now employed too.

Classic Navy Jumpers

Navy continues to be a timeless choice for knitwear. The navy jumper is versatile, offering a sophisticated look that can be dressed up or down. Whether paired with jeans for a casual outing or trousers for a more polished appearance, this staple piece is a must-have for both men and women.

Bold Striped Knitwear

Stripes are making a strong comeback, particularly in menswear. Striped knitwear adds a pop of colour and pattern to your winter wardrobe. Look for bold, contrasting stripes that make a statement. This trend is perfect for those who want to inject a bit of fun into their outfits while staying warm.

Cropped Jumpers

Cropped jumpers are a trendy addition to any wardrobe, offering a modern silhouette that pairs well with high-waisted skirts and trousers. This style is perfect for layering, providing both warmth and style without overwhelming your frame and suitable for nearly all body shapes. Our cropped guernseys were introduced to be a little more flattering for the female form and skim the hips and provide a more draped off shoulder. They are also worn by men who like to layer their fit for a trapeze silhouette (seen below by @mr.panesar.archived)

Hand Knitted Jumpers

Hand-knitted pieces are back in vogue, celebrating craftsmanship and unique, one-of-a-kind designs. Hand knitting is like Hand writing and these jumpers often feature intricate patterns and textures, making each piece a work of art. They align very much with the sustainable fashion movement, as they are typically made in small batches with high-quality materials.

Cardigans for Every Occasion

Cardigans are incredibly versatile and can be styled in numerous ways. From oversized, chunky knits perfect for lounging at home to more tailored, button-down versions suitable for a smart occasion, cardigans are a key piece this season. Layer them over your favourite tops for a cozy, yet chic look.

Winter Whites and Creams

While bold colours dominate, winter whites and creams are also trending. These shades offer a clean, elegant look that stands out against the darker hues typically associated with winter. They can be styled monochromatically or mixed with other neutral tones for a chic ensemble that feels fresh and sophisticated.

“Subversive Prep”

This involves combining classic preppy pieces like cardigans or traditional knits with edgy elements. Think a knitted jumper over a satin gown, or a cardi worn with layers of tulle and bold accessories. This trend allows for playful experimentation with textures and styles, blending hard and soft aesthetics for a unique look.

Ice Blue: The Winter Colour for 2024

Ice blue is poised to be the standout colour for winter 2024. This cool, refreshing hue offers a modern twist on traditional winter palettes. It can be incorporated into your knitwear through jumpers, scarves, and even accessories, providing a fresh, icy look that complements the season's vibe.

What Sweaters Are in Style?

From oversized chunky knits to sleek, fitted designs, the variety in sweater styles this season is vast. Look for pieces with unique details such as exaggerated sleeves, intricate patterns, and luxurious textures. The key is to choose jumpers that not only keep you warm but also make a fashion statement.

How can I Incorporate These Trends into my wardrobe?

When updating your wardrobe, consider how these trends can be mixed and matched with your existing pieces. Investing in quality, sustainable knitwear not only keeps you stylish but also supports ethical fashion practices.

As with a lot of trends you may be wondering about their practicality and longevity. Rest assured classic knitwear never goes out of style and is always perfect for layering, ensuring you stay cozy throughout the colder months.

Whether you opt for sustainable fashion, bold stripes, or classic navy, the key is to find pieces that not only reflect your personality but will keep you warm this season and for plenty of Autumns and Winters to come.
