Sizing Guide
How do I know what size to buy?
Because we use worsted wool and knit more stitches to the line than other manufacturers (our vintage flatbed machines are a higher gauge than most), our guernseys fit a bit snugger than a regular pullover. The positive is that they don't lose their shape, but DO NOT BUY your exact measured chest size.
We fit our garments the traditional guernsey way, using inches and the widest part of the body as a starting point. All our guernseys are unisex, so we sell exactly the same garment to a woman as a man.
The easiest way: measure a sweater you love
1. Lay a sweater you already like and wear a lot flat on your bed and measure from armpit to armpit in inches.
2. Double that number.
3. That is your guernsey size in inches, so you're choosing a fit you already like.
On every picture we've also noted the model's dress or jacket size and the guernsey size they're wearing, to help you judge.
Starting from scratch
Measure the widest part of your body (chest, shoulders, bust or tummy), then:
Traditional fitted look: add 2 inches. Example: measure 40", buy the 42".
Roomier fit for layering: add 4 inches. Example: measure 40", buy the 44".
All our sizes are in inches and represent the full circle around your chest, from armpit to armpit and back again. Sizes go up in 2-inch increments to allow for some variation.
Lengths
Sleeves (shoulder seam to cuff) start at 20" for a 36" chest and increase to 23" for size 42" and above.
Body length starts at 25" for a size 36" and is 29" for sizes 42" to 48". The longer body is true to the original working design: the back could be sat on while mending crab pots and the front allowed for leaning over the side of a boat. You can style it shorter by tucking the length under.
The cropped off-shoulder comes in one size only: 50" wide with a pronounced drop shoulder, a slouchy trapeze shape and a shorter 23" length.
Size chart

We don't use fixed XS to XL sizes, as busts, tummies and shoulders vary so much. As a rough guide, and wherever possible please still follow the +2 or +4 inch advice above:
ALL MEASUREMENTS ARE IN INCHES
XXS 28-30" (children)
XS 32-34" (children & petite)
SML 36-38"
MED 40-42"
LARGE 44-48"

For very small and very large sizes, we may need to make to order as we don't carry large amounts of stock.
